REFORMER PILATES

The reformer is Joseph Pilates' powerhouse for strength, flexibility, balance & posture.

ARE YOU NEW TO REFORMER PILATES?

If you are new to reformer Pilates, we recommend our Reformer Starter Package followed by the Fundamentals class. It’s designed for beginners and anyone looking for a slower, more restorative and less challenging class. It’s also ideal if you are returning to Pilates after an injury, however we don’t recommend taking part in any group class if you are injured or in chronic pain. If you have any doubts about any injury, disability or other medical condition, get in touch and we’ll help you get started in the most effective way for your body.

WHAT IS REFORMER PILATES?

The reformer is a machine which consists of a sliding carriage with springs, bars and straps. Invented by Joseph Pilates nearly 100 years ago for bedridden soldiers during the first world war, it is not just another fitness fad but a remarkable piece of equipment. The reformer is also very versatile. You can lie, kneel and stand on it and adjust the tension of the springs to different levels to create the ultimate workout.

The reformer allows your body to move through a full range of motion, something which can be difficult on a mat alone.  The springs and footbar on the reformer are also adjustable. This means that exercises can be adapted for different body sizes and different skill levels.  Your Pilates teacher can help you make all the necessary adjustments to suit you. You can work out on the reformer in either group classes or privately.

PRICES & OFFERS

To keep things personal, each reformer class has a maximum of 9 participants. Reformer Classes from £13.50 to £30 depending on your choice of class pass. If you have not done reformer Pilates before, we recommend the Reformer Starter Package for £99, which includes a 45-minute one-to-one session and three classes. Or if you are new to Moss Pilates, get 2 classes for £30 with our Introductory Offer.

THE BENEFITS OF REFORMER PILATES

The reformer gives you all the benefits of mat pilates and more. The springs and pulleys on the reformer give you far more resistance than you can achieve with just your body weight on a mat. This helps to improve posture, overall strength and flexibility. You will look and feel taller as a result. The resistance also gives you constant feedback, allowing you to feel the muscles in your arms and legs working through the springs and pulleys. With consistent practise, you will notice better definition in your arms, legs and butt.

The reformer promotes focusing on your body as you exercise, which makes it difficult to think about anything other than what you are doing. The ultimate mind/body experience without even realising this is what is happening! To sum it all up, the Reformer complements the way your body moves while correcting faulty movement. By supporting your body with a solid framework to move from, then supporting and resisting it along the way, the reformer ultimately helps to give you the best body possible.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW FOR MY FIRST REFORMER CLASS?

First and foremost you should know that you’re going to love it! Give yourself a bit of extra time for your very first class. If you have not used Pilates equipment before, arrive fifteen minutes early, so the teacher can ‘show you the ropes’. This is a safety requirement so please allow enough time for your first class otherwise it may be forfeited.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO REFORMER PILATES CLASSES?

The best thing to wear to Pilates classes is what you makes you feel comfortable and allows you to move freely. Most of our clients wear leggings or shorts with a t-shirt. One thing you won’t need is shoes. Pilates classes happen in socks or bare feet, whichever you prefer. We have male and female changing rooms, with water fountains available.
