MYOFASCIAL RELEASE LONDON

Why Try Myofascial Release?

The Myofascial Release treatment is a gentle but effective method precisely identifying restrictions, then working with your body using a number of specialised techniques, including specific joint work and visceral release. It can be used alone and can be very effective for many painful conditions including:

  • Shoulder & Neck Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel & RSI
  • TMJ & Jaw related pain
  • Scoliosis and postural issues
  • Injury & post operative recovery
  • Whiplash
  • Fibromyalgia

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial release is a type of physical therapy often used to treat myofascial pain syndrome; a chronic disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in your myofascial tissues. These tissues surround and support the muscles throughout your body. The pain usually originates from specific points within your myofascial tissues called ‘trigger points’. Myofascial release helps to reduce pain by easing the tension and tightness in the trigger points. Myofascial release is often used over a broad area of muscle and tissue rather than at single points.

What can cause Myofascial Pain?

Myofascial pain can have two sources. Pain can be generated from the skeletal muscle or connective tissues that are ‘bound down’ by tight fascia. In addition, pain can also be generated from damaged myofascial tissue itself, sometimes at a ‘trigger point’ where a contraction of muscle fibers has occurred. In either case, the restriction or contraction inhibits blood flow to the affected structures, thus accentuating the contraction process further unless the area is treated.

Some benefits of Myofascial Release

One of the key benefits of myofascial release therapy is to stretch and loosen the fascia so that you can move more freely, and your range of motion is restored. This is where the term ‘release’ comes from in the name. Life, especially in the city, is fast paced and often stressful. This environment can have negative physiological effects on the body including posture, movement habits and tight muscles, making your more susceptible to injury. Restricted range of motion (sitting for example) and inefficient movement can be the root cause of chronic pain.

A combination of Pilates, to regain efficient movement and realign the body, together with manual, targeted myofascial release, will allow you to:

  • Explore and allow the body to find its equilibrium
  • Discover your potential to move with ease in a full range
  • Release into movement with movement Myofascial sessions
  • Overcome poor posture and habits contributing to pain
  • Rebalance the neural and motor systems
