What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy is a type of bodywork that relieves compression in the bones of the head, sacrum (a triangular bone in the lower back), and spinal column as well as soft tissue release; a gentle hands-on therapy that supports the body’s natural goal to find optimal health and postural balance. Craniosacral Therapy was developed in the early 1900’s from the findings of a US Osteopath, Dr William Sutherland. These findings show that, in health, all living tissue (muscles, bones, nerves, fluid) express a subtle rhythmic motion, which has been called Primary Respiration.
The full and balanced expression of Primary Respiration is fundamental to good health. However, factors such as accidents, injuries, stresses, toxicity or emotional problems can affect Primary Respiration and therefore health. Craniosacral Therapy is non-invasive. It uses gentle contact on the head, neck, and back to relieve the stress and pain caused by compression and/or inflammation. It can, as a result, help to treat a number of conditions. Through the gentle manipulation of the bones in the skull, spine, and pelvis, the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the central nervous system can removes “blockages” which in turn enhances the body’s ability to heal.

Craniosacral Therapy is suitable for all ages.
During a session, usually, you will lie fully clothed on a treatment table and experience the light touch of the therapist’s hands. You may feel a deep relaxation and possibly become aware of heat, tingling, pulsations or other sensations. Depending on what you’re using Craniosacral Therapy to treat, you may benefit from between 3 and 10 sessions, or you may benefit from maintenance sessions.
